At the parish day on 10 November 2007 we met to discuss the life and work of the church. We talked about how we live together as a community, welcoming each other, and how as evangelists we can make known the good news of Jesus Christ to the whole community. We explored ways to pray and discussed what worship means to us. We thought about how we can grow as disciples in learning and service to others. We told stories and listened. We looked in a new way at the world and the Bible. We shared experiences and lunch. It was a day full of energy and new ideas, a chance to meet each other and find out more about our faith and our church.
Encouragement, celebration and prayer are three aims which came from all these discussions. We need to encourage each other and the people we meet. We need to celebrate the good news. And we need to support everything we undertake with prayer.
In the next few months we will be thinking about how to create ways for people to encounter God and each other. We will try to do this in all sorts of ways: in welcome, in music, in social events, in opportunities to learn and explore, in familiar and new forms of worship, and in prayer. If you would like to know more or to find out how you can join in, talk to any of the churchwardens, clergy or LLMs.
The full reports from the discussion groups, and from the afternoon sessions, are available for anyone interested.
