| Today our
parish consists of the village of Water Stratford, the hamlet at Buffler’s
Holt and some outlying farms – about fifty dwellings in all. The
map below shows part of Tingewick and the A421 to the south and part of
the A422 to the north. A faint cross to the left of the "S" of Water Stratford
marks the church.
We are a constituent parish of the West Buckingham benefice, which also contains Tingewick, Shalstone, Westbury, Biddlesden and Turweston. We continue the tradition of worship with one or two services a month (see forthcoming services). The main Christian festivals and the agricultural services at Rogationtide and Harvest are highlights of our year. The church is an important focus of community life, as we have no school, shop or pub in the village (although there is a pub in the parish at Buffler’s Holt on the A422 Buckingham/Brackley road). The Old School, mid-way up the village on the opposite side of the road to the church, serves as a village hall. We are a lively community; varied events are held each year which provide entertainment and raise funds to maintain the church and continue its ministry. Many people visit this church to enjoy its peace and beauty, discover its history or see the place where forebears worshipped. We welcome you; we invite you to offer a prayer while you are here and thus join in our spiritual life. If you would like to make a contribution towards the upkeep and work of our church, please put this in the box on the back pew, which is emptied daily. We hope you find God’s blessing in our church. |
