New for the Autumn - "Discussion Services" at St Mary's
Some subjects lend themselves to discussion not just proclamation. Having focused on 'Worship' in our sermons during the Summer months, this Autumn we will be focusing on how our relationship with God affects the way we live all of our lives. In order to tackle some of the deep ethical issues this raises, the 3rd Sunday service will be changed from 'Parish Praise' to a 'Discussion Service'. The service will have four parts.
It will begin with songs of praise and thanksgiving,
leading into the bible reading and a sermon.
This will be followed by twenty minutes in discussion groups working through what has been said and the questions it raises for us.
The service will then conclude with prayer and a final song.
It will be different; it may well be uncomfortable. Our hope and prayer is that it will help us all to become more Christ like.
AND THE TOPICS TO BE TACKLED?
On September 20th Geoff will help us think about Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia.
On October 18th Simon will stimulate our thinking about Sustainable Lifestyles
On November 15th Tim will lead us in reflecting on issues of Human Sexuality.
Many of the Sundays throughout the Autumn will have an ethical focus; including
Sally talking about our response to God's call on our time, talents and money on Stewardship Sunday (September 27th)
and Nick Procter preaching on 'Christianity in the work place' on October 25th
"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then
you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12:2
