CTK EASTER CARDS
This year, and for the first time,
CTK is sending out Easter cards like the Christmas cards with
details of all Easter and Holy Week services in the Kidlington
churches. They need delivering in the same way as the Christmas cards
and should be in the churches this Sunday and next, sorted into
streets for collection and delivery. Please collect the cards for a
street near you and deliver them as soon as possible. Sue Mills,
Tel. 376546 or email sue.mills@ntlworld.com for further information.
PLANNED GIVING
I will soon be organising distribution of the new Planned Giving
envelopes for 2009/2010. A few people have recently changed their
giving from regular envelopes to standing orders, and if you are
thinking of doing this then please let me know, so I can give you the
necessary paperwork instead of new envelopes. If you are not part of
the Planned Giving scheme at all then please consider this - it makes
it easier for you to support the work of the church regularly and it
helps the parish budget better. For more information, forms,
envelopes etc, then please contact me or ask one of the Churchwardens.
Margaret Day (tel: 375916).
ELECTORAL ROLL -- for those not on it ...
The Church has a democratic system of government. Bishops, clergy and
laity all take part in decision making over the whole field of the
Church's concern. Decisions are made at Parish, Deanery, Diocesan and
General Synod level. Members in a parish elect a Parochial Church
Council, the P.C.C. They also elect representatives to serve on the
Deanery Synod. The Deanery Synod elects representatives to the
Diocesan Synod which in turn representatives to the General Synod.
To take part in the voting at the Church's Annual Meeting, members
must have their names entered on the Electoral Roll. They are entitled
to have their names entered on the roll of the parish if they are
baptised; are members of the Church of England or of a church in
communion with the Church of England; are 16 years of age or upwards;
are resident in the parish and have signed a form of application for
enrolment. If they are not resident in the parish they may apply for
enrolment if they habitually attend public worship in the parish for a
period of six months prior to enrolment.
All members entitled to be on the roll should enrol. The roll is the
list of worshiping church members and is very useful to the clergy
when carrying out their pastoral duties.
NB If your name is already entered on the roll, there is no
need to make a further application this year.
John Amor
Electoral Roll Officer
ST JOHN'S SCRAPBOOK
I am now setting out in earnest to collect everything together for St
John's Scrapbook marking our 50th Anniversary celebrations. If you
have any photos of events (fund-raising, socials, services) that you
can offer, then please contact me or send them directly to my email.
Many thanks. Margaret Day (tel: 375916, email:
margaret.day12@btinternet.com)
SOBELL HOUSE HOSPICE CHARITY
are asking for your help! Do you have old unused mobile phones that
you could give to raise funds for their charity? 10 mobile phones
could cover the cost of a volunteer daily work and much more. Please
place any unwanted phones (sim card not included) in the marked
recycling bin in the churches.

trials, through their pains and their puzzles and their sufferings and
their shipwrecks, still reaching out into the future, out beyond Rome
and the first century, out across the tracts of time and
geography.. . The journey is ours, the trials and vindications are
ours, the sovereign presence of Jesus is ours, the story is ours to
pick up and carry on." (Tom Wright, Acts for Everyone) Come and join

Travelling through Holy Week: 8th April.
Stations of the Cross Service
A variety of worship through the parish can accompany us on our journey
through Holy Week. At St John's these opportunities include reflection
on the stations of the cross, worship using art to reflect on Christ's
journey to the cross and his death. This year St John's will be using
art by Nicholas Mynheer, a local Oxfordshire artist, who also created
the etched glass windows in the Lady Chapel. The pictures we will be
using were originally commissioned by St Matthew's Church, Perry
Beeches, Birmingham.
Nick writes about his work on his website: For the last thirteen
years or so all of my work has been on Biblical themes and themes from
Christian Iconography. Some themes I return to time and again - for
instance the arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane. What other theme
encompasses the whole gamut of human emotions; fear, guilt, anger, love,
resignation and hope. It is hope that I would like to think shines
through my work.
My style of painting and sculpting is very much a linear one. Line is
the starting point and is almost never lost.... I simplify and stylise
the figures and forms... In my work a 'background' is never merely a
backdrop. The very landscape is involved in the event portrayed. The
trees might act as pointers, the clouds move in response or the hills
enfold or lean away. It is interesting what you as the artist can learn
from the painting or sculpture; often you start off wanting to say
something but end up being told something. In that respect I suppose it
is like prayer - the answer or result is often not what was expected. I
suppose, ultimately, I do not fully understand what it is that I do or
how it happens.
Come and join us in this reflective journey at
St John's, Wednesday 8th April at 7.30pm
NB: You can also see some of Nick's work, The Sarum Cycle, at St
Giles Church Oxford until 15th April, and hear him speak about this
work on Wednesday 25th March, 6pm at St Giles.
