NoticesJump to: General NoticesFrom AustraliaWell, here we are settling in nicely. We came over on one of the new Airbus planes, really massive with three storeys. But very nice - lovely spacious seating, good food and very smooth flight. We bought a new car after about three days and would you believe, we have bought a stunning house one street away from the sea. It is beautiful. We are going through the process at the moment, but it doesn`t take very long at all and we are moving in on 8th December. The garden is lovely with palm trees, tropical plants and a swimming pool. Can`t wait to get there. Love to you all. Glenys & TonyOxford Girls' ChoirThank you to all who supported the concert last Saturday. It raised a profit of £1075.91.Wednesday Fellowship GroupAmong the various informal groups in the parish which meet regularly for Bible study and fellowship, the Wednesday Group has been meeting for many years. It currently does not meet on the first Wednesday of the month or during school holidays, but meets at 8pm in the houses of members of the group. Each session is led by different group members and lasts about an hour and a half, sometimes including a time of worship as well as Bible study or other discussion topic and an optional cup of coffee or tea. Different courses are followed, many of them lasting aprox. 6 weeks. Our discussions are very informal and there is also an occasional social evening, such as before Christmas. Clergy are sometimes invited to lead a house communion service. We are currently following a course studying the Epistle to the Ephesians. We always break up to participate in the ecumenical study groups arranged for Lent by the CTK and do not meet on occasions as Ash Wednesday or the CTK Fellowship Meal in the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in January. If you are interested and would like to come along, please contact either Karen Mason or Sue Mills, Tel 370169 or 376546, email: karen_mason @ hotmail.co.uk or sue.mills @ ntlworld.com .Historic Churches Ride or StrideThank you to all those who supported the Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust, Ride or Stride. Thank you. Hilary.THE TRAVELLING NATIVITY: Journeying through AdventThis is an invitation to enter into the season of Advent, the time of preparing to enter the mystery of Christmas by taking part in a journey. The Posada is a South American tradition that is enjoyed across the world. It is a recreation of Mary and Joseph's journey towards Bethlehem. Special figures of Mary and Joseph will ‘travel’ between our homes, where we can take it in turns to host them on their journey. This Travelling Nativity, or Posada, can be seen as an opportunity to encourage us to take some time to reflect on what Advent means for each of us and to share together special moments of quiet and peace, with a short service and some shared prayers. The order of service, prayers and blessings can be used as strictly or as freely as you wish. The idea is that the Nativity Travellers (special figures of Mary, Joseph and the donkey) start their journey on the First Sunday of Advent (30th November), setting out from St John's Church. The first household to 'host' takes the Nativity Travellers to the next home and they in turn take The Travellers to the next home - and so the journey proceeds until the Travelling Nativity makes its way back to be welcomed into St John's on Christmas Eve at the Crib Service. Anyone is welcome to host, or share in this celebration. If you are interested in participating please contact Hilary, tel:375611, vicar@thecampbells.demon.co.ukLooking AheadFood for Thought Tues 2nd DecThe lunchtime bible discussion group will be meeting again on Tuesday 2nd December beginning at 12 noon until 2pm, at St John's Vicarage (come to side door of vicarage next to church) We continue a study of The Acts of the Apostles (chapters 9 to 15) looking at the development of the early communities seeking to be 'Followers of The Way' "The book of Acts... is full of the energy and excitement of the early Christians as they.. learned to take the good news of Jesus around the world. ...this is the book where more journeys take place .. than anywhere else in the Bible.. The whole book reminds us that whatever 'journey' we are making, in our own lives, our spirituality, our following of Jesus, and our work for his kingdom, his spirit will guide us too, and make us fruitful in his service." (Tom Wright, Acts for Everyone/) Come and join us as the journey continues. Bring sandwiches with you, drinks provided.FAIR TRADE FAIR Sat 6th DecThe Kidlington Christmas Fair Trade Fair will be held at Exeter Hall on Saturday 6th December, from 10.00a.m. to 4.00p.m. Many of the usual stalls will be there and several interesting new suppliers are also coming so there will be plenty of opportunity for buying Christmas gifts and everyday items. We are appealing for help for the day, baking cakes (to serve as refreshments or to sell) - including fair trade ingredients where you can! We need a rota of people to help on some of the stalls and in the kitchen. If you can offer one or two hours, we'd be very grateful - please let one of us know what time you would be available, so we can make sure we have the necessary number of helpers throughout the day.
