CHURCH SERVERS WANTED
There are vacancies for adult servers at St Mary's. If anyone is interested please speak to John Amor.
GATEHOUSE SUPPORTERS
I am helping Janet Hillsdon with Gatehouse arrangements and have various things to pass on. We have been asked to adjust our rota dates to fit better with other contributions, from now on our date will be every fourth Thursday (i.e. not necessarily the last Thursday in the month), starting with Thursday 14th February, which is a week earlier than the original rota. A new rota with revised dates for the next few months will be available shortly in the churches; if you would prefer this to be sent by email, then please let me know. If anyone is interested in joining the rota, providing sandwiches/cakes or delivering to the Gatehouse, then you would be very welcome as our number has dwindled over recent months.

All the food we provide is greatly appreciated by the guests at the Gatehouse. Besides made-up sandwiches and cakes, any items for making drinks or extra sandwiches are very welcome: tea, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar, packet soups, jam, peanut butter, tinned ham etc., but please remember that there are no cooking facilities. Non-perishable goods can be delivered to the collection point (Sarah Karatzios at 60 Cherry Close) by 4p.m. on the rota date or left in the boxes in the churches on the previous Sunday.

ECUMENICAL LENT GROUPS
Churches Together in Kidlington is again organizing discussion groups this Lent. The course to be followed is the York Courses Lent 2008 course on "The Lord's Prayer: praying it, meaning it, living it". There is a course booklet for all participants, for which you will be asked to pay £3 except in cases of hardship, as well as a CD plus transcript for each group, which contains a discussion starter introduced by Dr. David Hope, with contributions from Bishop Kenneth Stevenson, Canon Margaret Sentamu, Dr. David Wilkinson, and Elaine Storkey.

The groups have now been arranged as follows, starting this week

  • Thursday 2.15 p.m. 52 Brasenose Drive
  • Tuesday 8 p.m. 13 Mead Way
  • Wednesday 8 p.m. 49 Evans Lane
  • Thursday 8 p.m. 58 Morton Ave.
If you have not signed up for a group but would like to join one of these it is still possible, but please contact Sue Mills, Tel. 376546

Looking Ahead

HOLIDAY CLUB Meeting 3rd Mar
As many of you may know we have been asking for more help with the Holiday Club, run in August, by all the churches of Kidlington. There are many jobs that can be done by all ages as follows: Help with setting up and dismantling Help with Refreshments, preparing and clearing up only. BBQ - needs a small team to prepare, cook and clear up. These jobs would only take an hour of your time in the morning or afternoon. We feel this is a really important event and a great opportunity to meet the Parents who come to join in at the end of the week and this is also very often the only connection some of the children have with the church. Please give this prayerful consideration and if you can help in any way, we are having a meeting on Monday March 3rd at 8pm in the Methodist Church Hall or please phone Marilyn King on 376700.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT 4th March
The lunchtime bible discussion group will be meeting again on Tuesday 4th March 2008 beginning at 12 noon until 2pm, at St John's Vicarage. Carried over from last time we begin an exploration of Job. The book of Job is in many ways one of the most relevant books of the Bible. It airs the problem of undeserved suffering. Why do bad things happen to good people? The news of all the disasters that had fallen on Job came to the ears of three of his friends... they sat there on the ground beside him for seven days and seven nights. To Job they spoke never a word, for they saw how much he was suffering. But they didn't stay silent... This time we are covering Job chapters 1 to 14. Come and join us. Bring sandwiches with you, drinks provided.

The next meeting will be on Wednesday 12th March from 7.30pm to 9pm at St John's Vicarage, when we will be reflecting on the practices of Lent and Easter. Contact Hilary 01865 375611
