St John's 50th Anniversary Celebrations, 2007 and 2008

To celebrate the forthcoming 50th Anniversary of the building and dedication of St John's Church in Kidlington we are planning the following fundraising, outreach and special events.

Events in 2007 to raise funds for celebrations include:

  • Saturday 7th July 2007 10.30 to 12 noon
    Coffee morning at St John's
  • Wednesday 19th September 2007 (to be confirmed)
    Craft Evening at St John's

Outreach aims:

As part of our celebrations we are encouraging people to contibute to Edukid, continuing the support for the good work Edukid are doing in Cambodia and the Far East. Collecting boxes are available for individuals and at fundraising events.

Celebratory Events in 2007 and 2008 to include:

  • Friday 26th October 2007 at 6.30pm
    Service of Re-Dedication, with Bishop Henry Richmond Celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone. Bishop Henry Richmond will lead and preach. Refreshments after the service.
  • Friday 15th February 2008
    Valentine's Day Barn Dance, with ploughman's supper
  • Saturday and Sunday 21st/22nd June 2008
    Patronal Festival Weekend
    A range of activities, including parade around Garden City, displays and demonstrations in the hall from hall users, art and craft from West Kidlington School, hog roast, sponsored golden balloons launch.
  • Saturday and Sunday 27th/28th September 2008
    Harvest Festival and 50th Anniversary of opening of St John's
    Flower Festival, with memorial table in Lady Chapel for people to leave a posy of flowers in memory of a loved one, history display of photos, slides etc, teas to be served throughout Saturday, ministers who have served at St John's to be invited to Sunday service, lunch afterwards.
