General Notices

OLD TIME MUSIC HALL
Very many thanks to all those who supported the Old Time Music Hall in so many different ways. A wonderful evening was enjoyed by everyone. After the expenses have been covered there should be a profit of over £1,100!
THANKYOU LETTER
Dear friends, Thank you for your love and prayers, for your generosity and your gifts and above all for your company, especially last Sunday at the 50th Anniversary of my ordination. We were overwhelmed by the magnitude of your generosity to us, but as for those who wished me all the best for the next 50, God forbid! Tony and Sue Knox.
ANYONE FOR ANOTHER DAY OUT?
As the pilgrimage to the Welsh Borders was so enjoyable would you be interested in doing a day trip to Northhamptonshire in October 2007? please let Anthony know.
THANK YOU
Members of Junior Church thank everyone who supported the recent Bring and Buy sales. A total of £104.50 was raised.
DUTY ROTAS
If you have to change the day that you are on the rota for a particular duty, please could you indicate the change on the master copy by the front door or let one of the wardens know. This would be particularly helpful over the holiday season.
OPEN CHURCHES
St Mary's will again be open to visitors this summer on Wednesday afternoons from 2.30pm to 5.30pm and Sunday afternoons from 12.30pm to 5.30pm. If you can help by being in church on any of these afternoons, please enter your name on the rota. In addition to welcoming visitors, time spent in the quietness of St Mary's is a wonderful antidote to the stresses and strains of our busy lives. As St Mary's is included in Simon Jenkins' book, England's Thousand Best Churches, we can expect to receive some visitors wishing to view our fine medieval church. Andrew Lloyd Webber set up the Open Churches Trust so that people can visit some of the finest of the country's churches and 'enjoy not only the beauty but also the unique history each can extol'. On Wednesdays we would encourage two stewards to be present. There is a set of notes about the history and architecture of St Mary's on the table near the church door. I am very willing to arrange a church tour if it will help. John Amor
SUMMER SUNDAY TEAS
are being served in the Refectory 3pm - 5pm each week starting on Sunday 13th May. Come along and enjoy the delicious home made cakes, a good way of ending a Sunday afternoon walk!

FOOD FOR THOUGHT 26th June
I wonder if you have a picture in mind when you think about reading and engaging with Scripture? I love the story of Jacob wrestling with the angel, longing for a blessing. After his encounter with the angel he is blessed, and he is never the same again - he is marked. Would you like to join a group meeting to wrestle with Scripture, or chew over some texts? As we as a parish are thinking about (amongst other things!) the role and place of our buildings and how we use and create sacred space - one idea is to spend some time studying texts that might help and guide our thinking. I am suggesting a lunchtime group - bring some sandwiches and your Bible and let's eat and talk together. I will provide drinks. Come to St John's Vicarage (study door entrance by the church) on Tuesday June 26th at 12 noon, to talk over what we might usefully do together. We will be finished by 2pm. Hilary
ST MARY'S SPRING CLEAN 26th, 27th June
Please come along and help with Spring Cleaning if you can on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm.
DETACHED COMMUNITY YOUTHWORKER 26th June
There will be another open meeting on Tuesday June 26th, 8pm at Kidlington Baptist Church, (and another date pencilled in for Wed Sept 19th, also 8pm at St Mary's Refectory) as we continue to explore the possibility of employing a detached community youthworker alongside current council provision. At this meeting we will be looking at questions of the nature of a community partnership that may form the employing body for any youthworker, and we will want to gauge the level of support and commitment from various parts of the community. We want to hear your views, so please come along.
FUN DAY AT HAMPTON POYLE Saturday 30th June
2pm to 5pm There will be a Teddy Bear's Picnic, Summer stall, Fairtrade stall, Tombola, Cake stall, Strawberries & Cream, Plants, Face painting and a Treasure Hunt. See you there!

We hope to have helpers from all the churches, so if you can offer to look after the stall for an hour between 12.00 and 4.00 p.m. or would be able to help with transporting goods before or after the event that would be greatly appreciated.
