General Notices

THE ANNUAL PAROCHIAL CHURCH MEETING 25th April
St. Mary's Refectory at 8pm. This is an opportunity for the congregation to elect the officers, PCC and Committee members and to approve the names of sides people. The nomination forms are on display in each church. Please think seriously about whether you could serve on the PCC and help to move forward the work of our church in this Parish. There are 10 vacancies to be filled this year.
PCC SECRETARY
We are also in great need of a PCC Secretary. We have been working without a secretary for a year now. The secretary takes and types up the minutes of the PCC and Standing Committee meetings and collects together and distributes the appropriate papers before each meeting. Most of this is done by Email. It has been difficult working without a secretary this year because the tasks have had to be divided up, not making for efficient organisation and increasing the work load of those who have other parochial responsibilities. Please talk to one of the wardens if you think this is your area of expertise.
A BIG THANKYOU
to all who supported 'Tea at the Townsends' on Good Friday in aid of Helen and Douglas House. We pushed the total up to a record £220.50 thanks to your help. Put it in your diaries for next year for 21st March, a bit early for those who spent the afternoon in our garden. David and Joan Townsend.
PART TIME COURSE IN COUNSELLING & PSYCHOTHERAPY
begins Autumn 2007 at Douai Abbey near Reading. Run by Bridge Pastoral Foundation. The course will be a theoretical and experimental learning process, offering professional development and a profound personal journey. For further details contact Ann Boyd on cpc@bridgepastoral.org.uk

The Colour of Love - An Exhibition of Modern Christian Art - 22nd April- 9th June
An exhibition of 38 paintings and four reliefs of the life of Jesus by some very famous artists: Sutherland, Heron, Frink, Gill and Burra and others who are still alive and will be associated with the exhibition, such as Mynheer and Cazalet, will be hosted by the Wesley Memorial Methodist Church (New Inn Hall street) and St Michael at the North Gate (corner of Cornmarket and Ship Streets). Opening hours: 11am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday. Stewards needed: We urgently need to recruit 'Stewards' to sit in on the exhibition and keep an eye on things. The first to volunteer will have their choice of days and times. I am sure that lots of people, young and old, would enjoy being Stewards. Please note that the paintings are insured and there is usually help at hand in the adjacent Church Offices. Your presence at the exhibition is a deterrent to those who would do ill and a support to the law abiding. In the event of wrongdoing, you would be expected to exert moral influence, not physical. However, much of the reward of being a Steward, is to be with some quite superb paintings for a couple of hours of pure enjoyment. For more information please contact The Revd Hugh Lee, City Rector and Priest-in-Charge St Michael at the North Gate Tel 01865 316245.
LECTURE ON BISHOP SIMEON TRUST (HIV/AIDS) IN SOUTH AFRICA 24th Apr
Public lecture on Tuesday 24th April 1pm to 2pm, at the Wesley Memorial Church Hall, New Inn Street, Oxford City Centre. The Speaker will be Stuart Craig, Director of the Trust. All welcome.

Elgar's THE KINGDOM May 12th
The Kingdom by Edward Elgar (celebrating the 150th anniversary of Elgar's birth) will be sung by Kidlington Amateur Operatic Society & Woodstock Music Society in Oxford Town Hall on Saturday May 12th at 7.30. It provides a rare opportunity to hear this great religious choral work. Elgar's The Kingdom is a dramatic presentation of the early Church in Jerusalem. The text is drawn mainly from the first four chapters of the Acts of the Apostles. The glorious music tells the story of the Disciples after Christ's ascension. It reaches a powerful climax with the descent of the Holy Spirit, ending with the Lord's Prayer. Tickets (£13 and £11 concessions) are available from Oxford Playhouse (01865 305305) or Ann Beckett (01865 374967) or Ian Howdill (01865 375527).

"Grandparents have always fulfilled an important role within family networks, however it is evident that the role has changed. Many Grandparents find themselves supporting their Children by caring for Grandchildren in a Family crisis, such as separation or divorce, or because both Parents need to go out to work." Key Speaker - Dr Robin Mann from Oxford University. A fee of £10 will be charged (£5 conc) and tea/coffee and a sandwich lunch will be provided. If you would like to go please pick up a leaflet at the back of the church.
ST JOHN'S COFFEE MORNING 19th May
There is to be a fund raising coffee morning on Saturday 19th May 10am to 12.30 at the home of Malcolm and Jenny Austen, 8 Gosford Close. Stalls include, Bring and Buy, Cake Stall and Raffle. All proceeds in aid of St John's 50th Anniversary Project.
OLD TIME MUSIC HALL 16th June
In previous years the Parish Fete has been one of our pivotal summer activities. This year we plan instead to have an Old Time Music Hall on the evening of Saturday 16th June in St Mary's K. An Old Time Music Hall requires variety - songsters, dancers, comics, jugglers, magicians, monologue/dialogue actors, instrumentalists. If you think your talents fall into any of these categories, or others not specified, and are willing to audition for a place in the programme please let Stephanie Williams know on ph. 461193. She' s going to put together as varied a "menu" as possible, with as much talent as we can muster, especially musical, from within our three congregations and from outside so that the whole Parish can enjoy a quality night out. Please put yourself forward if you would like a place in the performance spotlight. The audience will be encouraged to dress up and there will be wine and strawberries in the interval. Much additional help will be required. If you would like to be part of a small organising committee please see Joyce Morris Tel 375922.
CHURCHES TOGETHER IN KIDLINGTON FLOWER FESTIVAL
This year's Flower Festival will take place on 15/16th September at St Mary's K. The Flower Festival is being organised by the Kidlington Evening Townswomen's Guild and they invite you to take part. If in previous years you had a place that you would like to continue to use please let Marianne Balazs know (of 26 Foxdown Close, Kidlington) by 30th May 2007.
