The Welcome to Abingdon scheme is a ministry of the Church in Abingdon, but is also sponsored by Abingdon Town Council.
Its aims are simply to...
- Welcome people moving into or within Abingdon by offering a friendly visit to say, "Welcome to your new home".
- Offer people access to information about groups and facilities in Abingdon
and their immediate locality, should they want it.
How it works:
- A representative in each church recruits volunteer welcomers, meets and familiarises volunteers with the scheme. The representative checks their paperwork and references and passes their details and photograph to the Visitor Co-ordinator who provides a personalised welcomers identity badge, welcome cards and information packs. The Property Co-ordinator then contacts them when someone moves in within their area.
- The welcomer visits the home when people move in, taking a welcome card. The card will have space for welcomers to write their name, address and telephone number and can be put through the door should they have difficulty finding the occupants at home. The welcomer may also take round a small gift of their own, if they wish. A more detailed information pack is provided if the occupants would like it.
- To identify people moving into a new home the scheme will rely on people informing the Property Co-ordinator, when they see people moving in.
