Sunday services

If you're looking for details of what's sheduled for this term, please visit the Term Calendar page.

Our faith is a seven-days-a-week affair, but we get together on Sundays at 10am for our service in the main hall, which usually lasts a little over an hour.

It loosely follows the structure of a service of The Word, but with very little formal Liturgy i.e. standard words and phrases from official books.

The aim for this special time is to bring to God the mess-ups of the week and experience His forgiveness, to celebrate His love, to build a real faith, and pray for His world.

Everyone starts in the service together, and after 15 minutes or so the under-17s usually go to their own groups. Except for school holidays there is a creche for the tinies, and a range of childrens' groups. You can find out more about them in their own sections of this web site. During the holidays the services are structured to appeal to all ages. Once a month we include a Communion service, and that is based on the new Common Worship book.

Style: we're very informal, with a family feel. Our pattern includes a mix of new songs and older hymns, a reading from the Bible, a couple of talk slots, and prayers. We aim for some quiet space and reflection from time to time.

We don't usually have sermons, we have 'talks', and they are given by a number of the church leaders. This is a much lower key way of introducing aspects of the Bible and helping us to relate what we learn to our lives today. Sometimes these talks involve a little audience participation, and where there is an All Age Worship service (when the children and young people stay in for the whole service) they are expecially keen volunteers. You can sample some talks on the Talks Online page.

Everything you need to say or sing is clearly displayed on the big projection screen. The all-round audio system means that hearing aid users can easily hear everything, even over the background buzz of babies and small children, so please don't feel embarrassed to bring youngsters in. And after the service there is always hot and cold drinks and biscuits suitable for everyone, at no charge.

You can find out what Talks are scheduled for this term on the Term Calendar page. You will also be able to download past talks from this same page. For details on how to do this, please visit the Talks Online page.
